Occupational Therapy

St Dominic’s School has a team of Paediatric Occupational Therapists who have many years of experience in the area of Sensory Integration.

Occupational Therapy intervention will be provided as detailed in the pupils’ and students’ Education Health and Care Plan. Provision is continually monitored to ensure that it remains appropriate. As pupils’ and students’ needs change, it may be necessary to alter the Occupational Therapy provision at the Annual Review.

On admission, the pupils’ and students’ motor, perceptual, sensory and functional skills are assessed. This involves a range of standardised and non-standardised assessments. Occupational Therapy provision may consist of courses of individual sessions and also support integrated into the classroom following the ‘blended’ approach to enable them to access the curriculum, particularly in practical subjects such as Design and Technology and Food Technology.  Pupils and students also receive support with tool and equipment use in subjects such as Maths and Science. There is close liaison with education and residential area staff to ensure a consistent approach across the waking day curriculum.

The residential special school provides highly effective services that consistently exceed the standards of good. The actions of the school contribute to significantly improved outcomes and positive experiences for children and young people. Ofsted – March 2018
