Maths success and confidence growing at St Dominic’s School
Learners across St Dominic’s School have made an excellent start to the academic year in Maths, building skills, confidence and independence through a range of engaging and practical activities.
This summer the school celebrated impressive examination success, with 93.8% of learners achieving a Level 2 pass (9-4) in GCSE Maths or Functional Skills, significantly above the national average. These achievements reflect the hard work, perseverance and determination shown by learners as they work towards their individual goals.
Across the school so far this term, learners have been developing their mathematical understanding in a variety of ways. Some highlights include learners exploring the properties of 3D shapes using the MyMaths online platform and hands-on models, while Functional Skills learners have been completing past examination papers to strengthen key skills and build confidence ahead of their assessments.
In the Sixth Form, learners working towards Entry Level qualifications have been learning about geometry through practical activities, including measuring angles around the school and investigating lines of symmetry using cake.
Meanwhile, learners in Mars Class have been developing their understanding of number and place value through sensory and hands-on learning experiences.
The range of learning experiences on offer is helping learners develop both their mathematical knowledge and confidence, with a lot of progress being made across all year groups.
