St Dominic’s School marked World Book Day with an unforgettable visit from acclaimed author Michelle Magorian, whose classic novel Goodnight Mister Tom has captivated readers for decades.

Pupils and students were transported back to the era of World War II as Magorian delivered powerful readings and dramatic excerpts from her novel. Her expressive storytelling vividly brought to life the emotional journey of evacuees, holding the audience spellbound.

Accompanied by her son George, who performed musical scores written for both the television and stage productions of the story, the session became a truly immersive experience.

After the session, Magorian spent time signing copies of her book and meeting pupils and students, including Arabella, one of St Dominic’s own budding young authors. They had a photo taken together which marked a special moment, celebrating creativity and inspiring a new generation of writers within the school community.

The visit stood out as one of the highlights of World Book Day, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who attended.
