The Leisure Curriculum at St Dominic’s School gives pupils the chance to explore activities beyond the classroom, from sports and fitness to creative arts and games. It’s designed to build confidence, develop new skills, and promote wellbeing through enjoyable, balanced experiences. By offering choice, we encourage pupils to discover hobbies they love while strengthening teamwork, resilience, and independence.
Football / Futsal (Football pitch/ MUGA)
Football and futsal provide pupils with the opportunity to develop teamwork, coordination, and strategic thinking. Playing regularly improves cardiovascular fitness, agility, and overall physical well-being, while also building confidence and social skills.
Dungeons and Dragons (Years 8 & 9 only)
Dungeons & Dragons encourages creativity, problem-solving, and collaborative storytelling. Students can develop critical thinking, communication, and empathy while immersing themselves in imaginative adventures.
Film Classics / Laptop Time
Watching film classics or using laptops for creative projects allows pupils to explore storytelling, history, and technology. These activities can enhance cultural literacy, digital skills, and critical analysis.
Walk on the Common
Walking on the Common is a relaxing way to enjoy nature, reduce stress, and improve mental health. It promotes physical fitness while encouraging mindfulness and reflection.
Art
Art sessions allow pupils to express themselves creatively through various mediums such as drawing, painting, or sculpture. Engaging in art boosts imagination, fine motor skills, and emotional well-being.
Running / Fitness
Running and fitness activities develop stamina, strength, and overall physical health. Regular participation supports discipline, resilience, and a positive approach to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Rocksteady (outside agency)
Rocksteady provides pupils with the opportunity to learn and play music collaboratively in a band setting. It enhances creativity, teamwork, and self-confidence while developing musical skills.
Catch Up
Catch-up sessions give pupils time to complete assignments, revise, or seek extra support. This helps improve academic performance, organisation, and time-management skills.
