Consultation to change the planned pupil numbers

We are currently undertaking a consultation to formally change St Dominic’s School’s planned pupil numbers stated in the school’s funding agreement that it holds with the Department for Education (DfE).

The consultation is on a proposal to amend the number of planned places in the Funding Agreement that St Dominic’s School holds with the DfE from 150 to 184 from September 2025.

As St Dominic’s is an academy, this proposal would need to be approved by the DfE, and we are therefore seeking the views of parents and other interested parties through this consultation to inform the DfE’s decision-making process.

Background

St Dominic’s is a highly regarded special school and provides for students between the ages of 7 – 19, who have a range of academic abilities and complex needs and with a primary diagnosis of speech language and communication needs and/or autistic spectrum conditions. Over the last few years, St Dominic’s has met the demand of additional children across its existing year groups. As a result of this incremental increase, St Dominic’s currently offers places to 170 pupils which is above its current DfE funding agreement of 150 places.

St Dominic’s works in close partnership with Surrey Council to ensure its offer meets the need and demand for SEN places and complements other local provisions. Surrey Council has identified a need for more special school places for pupils, particularly at Year 7, whose needs could be met by the specialist team at St Dominic’s School, and this could potentially increase the total number of pupils across the school to 184.

Consultation process

The consultation period on this proposal is from Tuesday 3rd June 2025 to Tuesday 24th June 2025 and we invite you to take part in the following ways:

Public meetings, where you can meet the School and Trust leadership team and ask questions, will be held at:

  • St Dominic’s School on Monday 9 June as follows:
    • 9.30am – 11am
    • 3.30pm – 5pm
