From classroom to bookshelf: Year 10 pupils become published authors

By Ella Rollinson - January 9th, 2026 | Posted in Article

Two of our Year 10 pupils from St Dominic’s School have achieved great writing success and become published authors. We are so proud of Arabella and Henry who have worked so hard to turn their ideas into books that are now available to purchase.

A thrilling achievement for Henry

Henry’s debut novel ‘A String in Crime’ is no ordinary thriller. Packed with mystery, misdirection, and a carefully crafted twist, the story will appeal to aspiring investigators or anyone who loves trying to solve a crime before the final page.

We caught up with Henry to talk about his inspiration, writing routines, plot twists, and what it really feels like to see your own book listed on Amazon. He shared honest and thoughtful insights, proving that great ideas can start anywhere – and that with commitment and self-belief, anyone can write.

“I was inspired by a love of Agatha Christie books. I have wanted to write a book all my life and finally found the confidence and inspiration to do so. It took me two years to do the first draft and think of a good plot twist for the end. I had an idea as to how it would end but this changed as I started to write. My parents are completely proud and delighted I could write more than 200 pages.”

Henry’s book, A String in Crime, is available to purchase on Amazon.

Arabella takes centre stage

Arabella’s book ‘Little Marionette, Big Showtime!’  tells the charming story of a marionette named Meringue Cream, who works hard to make the Grand Pavlova Theatre shine. But will she deliver the perfect performance?

Arabella was inspired to start writing by her best friend long the way, she discovered the joys – and challenges – of the writing process.

“The hardest part was writing faster than a rocket! I knew how I wanted the book to end; I put all my ideas in a document and wrote while the plot of the book gradually changed. It has improved my formal language and stylish words. I have received kind feedback about the book. I have started writing more stories during my free time.”

Arabella’s book, Little Marionette, Big Showtime! is also available to purchase on Amazon.

Arabella and Henry’s achievements are a wonderful reminder of what young people can accomplish with creativity, perseverance, and confidence. We are so proud of their success and look forward to seeing where their writing journeys take them next.
