Our vision is to provide students with a range of opportunities so that they are able to reach their full potential and live life to the full. We do this by offering a holistic, therapeutic, residential Sixth Form with a focus on developing independent living.
All students have an individual learning plan which is designed to extend their strengths and offer support for their areas of development. Students will work towards accredited qualifications, ranging from Entry Level 3 to Level 3.
For some students a supported college placement is their next step, and this is discussed and agreed prior to the placement starting.
The emphasis is on developing skills for employment and independent living, which is offered through accredited qualifications and work experience.
Therapy support is tailored to meet individual need, either through 1-1 support or blended into the curriculum. Through this, students are able to develop their functional skills in travel, shopping, cooking and money management as well as their social skills, which include developing relationships with others, personal safety and how to use free time constructively.
A boarding placement offers further opportunities to develop life skills as part of the Waking Day Curriculum. The residential students take responsibility for planning, shopping, making and preparing their meals, setting the table and clearing the kitchen. Their bedrooms are expected to be kept tidy and they are supported with managing their personal care routines when needed. Socialising outside the school plays a significant part in preparing students for their next steps. Students can attend a range of activities, including: Cadets, St John’s Ambulance, swimming, golf, cinema and meals out.
Sixth Form students are encouraged to be good role models and this is done through student voice, sixth form mentoring opportunities and setting up and managing school projects. To date they have set up the school tuck shop and the new small animal farm, and are currently holding IT skills workshops for the local community.
