Food & Diet
St. Dominic’s is proud to have achieved Healthy Schools status, which is awarded for meeting the criteria in four core areas. These areas relate to both the school curriculum and the emotional and physical learning environment in school.
The Chef/Manager and the team provide a well-balanced nutritious diet every day for the school community, whilst also catering for individual dietary needs and offering alternative for pupils and students that have yet to develop their range of foods. We encourage all our learners to try new foods making sure that they feel ‘safe’ to do so.
The Chef/Manager attends food meetings to discuss the menus with the pupils & students and better understand their likes and dislikes.
For the last three years, we have maintained the highest rating from the Food Standards Agency, receiving 5 stars, as well as achieving the highest rating, for the last 3 years, for the internal audits that Connect Catering carry out during the year.

Healthy snacks are provided for the pupils & students on the playground.
We have two sittings in the dining room which helps control the noise levels. We offer a Meat or Fish and Vegetarian options each day as well as baked potato and fresh vegetables, a salad bar and bread. We also offer alternatives for individual needs. A choice of fresh fruit, yoghurt and homemade pudding are offered each day.
The residential pupils & students are encouraged to help to prepare healthy balanced meals where individual needs are met and independence skills are taught.
Weekly, the sixth form students are encouraged to plan a menu within a certain budget, go to the supermarket with a staff member to purchase the ingredients and prepare the evening meal. These experiences enhance valuable life skills.
